Known for their charity efforts, B1A4 recently teamed up with Shinsadong Tiger to record a theme song for ‘2014 Hope TV SBS’. SBS Hope TV is a show that follows Korean stars as they volunteer in African countries. The show is designed to raise awareness about the issues that Africans face, bringing in donations at the same time. Similar to many other charity shows, viewers will be able to call in and donate as they watch. The donated money will be used to improve the living conditions of children. The 5-member boy band B1A4 donated 5 tons of school supplies earlier this year. In celebration of their solo concert ‘The Class’, B1A4 asked fans to donate items to needy children instead of getting rice wreaths, which was the standard gift. ‘2014 Hope TV SBS’ will air on May 30 and 31st. B1A4, in combination with Shinsadong Tiger’s talented composing, has recorded a catchy logo song that will bring in the viewers. Check out the song that they made together! Source: Koreaboo

B1A4 as part of our exclusive Headliner Series where we bring the party to all of you BANAs! Watch as B1A4 visit sunny LA for the very first time to perform at the 2014 Korea Times Music Festival! We bring you exclusive footage of the boys taking over Venice Beach, bowling with Danny Im and encountering a scandalous situation involving the Playboy mansion? This never-before-seen story will show the amazing time that Jinyoung, CNU, Sandeul, Baro, and Gongchan spent in LA! B1A4 Baro’s filmography is interesting. Starting from drama cable tvN’s entertainment legend ‘Reply 1994’ to the SBS’ ‘God’s Gift—14 Days’ that had opened a new leaf out of its’ genre, which were works that had captured viewer’s interest and expectation, in those two works Baro was entrusted with characters who stood out against the others. In ‘Reply’ Baro was acting as Bing Geurae, a silent medical student who came from Chungbuk who has fresh and innocent charm, while in ‘God’s Gift’ he was Kim Younggyu who has a 6 years old mentality while he was in his late-teens, a character that might make actors with a lot of experience face difficulties while acting. Now Baro who had done those works is not afraid of the next ‘challenge’ he would get and from the ‘growth’ that was shown clearly, one could see that it was most probably because of his positive way of thinking. We have compiled a never before shown behind story through an interview with Baro. [First meeting with child actress Kim Yubin] At first I didn’t know that Yubin was that child who showed up in a bank commercial. I remember thinking ‘that girl is cute’ when watching the commercial and to Yubin I acted like how I would to a child her age. Though acting cute to Yubin is so awkward. (smile) I said to her ‘Hi, have you eaten?’ while fitting to her eye level, she replied thoroughly. Then there was once when (Lee) Boyoung noona asked her ‘Do you know who this oppa is?’ and Yubin said that she didn’t know. Boyoung noona asked again ‘You don’t know B1A4?’ and Yubin was ‘Ah~ my friends in class like B1A4. But I’m not interested’ and my heart sank in front of her. (She didn’t ask to take a picture with idol oppa?) On the contrary, it was when people in the neighborhood asked ‘Yubin-ah, can we take a picture?’ first that we take pictures together. Yubin is on the mature-side and she acts all adult-like. (She doesn’t joke around?) She doesn’t like that kind of thing. (smile) [After God’s Gift is finished] After it was finished I got some time. Of course the first thing that ran through my head was doing particular plans or my hobbies that I didn’t thought I wouldn’t have the time to do while doing the drama. Because I like soccer, I pushed on doing it on the line along with music activities. For acting, I also think that rather than studying as a somewhat-new actor on set, I also have to practice the basic constantly, [Going back to 14 days before] If it’s 14 days before I want to go back before the Sewol ferry incident and stop it. I saw that a lot of people wrote in their comments that it would be good if we can go back 14 days just like in ‘God’s Gift—14 days’ and I also think the same way. I’m not the kind of person who would dwell on the past. I’m the kind that would enjoy each day. [Timeslip just once] I want to go back to 2002 World Cup. That time I was in 4th grade of elementary school so I couldn’t enjoy World Cup. All I can do was watching those soccer matches through TV with my friends. It was the first World Cup in my life and it happened in our country so it was an unforgettable moment, so I often think ‘Why did the World Cup was done when I was still a child?’ or ‘If only 2002 World Cup is this year’. It’s really pitiful because it seemed like I would scream so loud my throat would hurt and be so happy until I couldn’t sleep. If I can turn back the time I want to go back to 2002. [Prepared Acting-dol B1A4] While doing the last half of ‘God’s Gift’ I could feel Younggyu comfortably and my members were also supporting me, saying ‘Seems like you’re getting comfortable? Go suffer a bit more’. Because I had read the script early, I didn’t act according to the script devotedly, I’m on the side that would observe carefully on how I have to act, and since the members love the drama I feel really thankful for them because they watched it excitedly and also talked about it between themselves. Recently we watched ‘Tumbleweed’ (directed by Lee Deokhee, 2013) and ‘Classic’ (directed by Gwan Jaeyong, 2003) together and re-watched the movies we have watched before; we memorized the scenes then reenacted them by ourselves, we had fun doing that. The works that we do the most are ‘Nameless Gangster’ (directed by Yoon Jongbin, 2011) and ‘New World’ (directed by Park Hunjeong, 2012). Rather than because we want to act, we play amidst ourselves while unfolding the situation. [Third acting challenge] Because I want to get a lot of experience, I want to do everything if I am given the chance. I want to show my true personality through my next work but I still haven’t found that kind of piece yet. ‘Reply’s Bing Geurae and ‘God’s Gift’s Younggyu were the characters I portrayed but this time I want to show myself as I am through school drama, romantic comedy or comedy piece. [B1A4 plan for 2014] We want to do music activities without rest. I don’t know the exact time but maybe about May 10th we will do a reality program while going on a K-POP performance. On June there is Brazil World Cup so I think B1A4 will do activities after? (Shall we expect a change in B1A4 in term of music?) It’s good if you do. Personally I really like this song we’re doing. We have thought about the album concept and the lyrics are made according to that, the song is in the work and the album feel is good, fresh even. Other than that is secret! [Target as an actor] the ultimate target is to be an actor with personality. My role model is Yang Donggeun-senior. I actually thought about what would Yang Donggeun do if he is to play Younggyu and Bing Geurae. Rather than being an actor who questions about whether they can do it good or not, I want to be an actor who can capture the character and portray it through my own feel. It’s a bit weird saying ‘actor’. I want to be a Baro that is like that. Source: The star / Translated by Kei (@812addiction) for AVIATEB1A4. / Do not remove credit when reposting. The B1A4 forest is in the process of being created. Tree Planet (representative Kim Hyeongsoo) revealed that for the third anniversary of B1A4’s debut, a forest is being created in Seoul, Gangnam. To create the B1A4 forest, the well-known company that plants tree, ‘Tree Planet,’ and the fans have worked together as part of the ‘Star Forest Project.’ ‘The Star Forest Project’ is a green project in which fans collect money, and plant a forest in the star’s name. As the fans took the lead in the creation of the B1A4 forest, it has an even greater meaning. The ‘B1A4 Forest’ project, which was created by the managers of B1A4’s fan cafe, have used many different ways to expressed the meaning of the project - to address air pollution. As a result more than 550 people have participated, and successfully collected enough money. The B1A4 forest located in the Gangnam Neulbot neighborhood park, has pine trees, Chinese juniper trees, spruce trees, bridalwreath spirea, Korean early lilacs, and others, for a total of a little less than 500 plants. Fans that participated revealed that the reason for participating was, ”Although it’s small, with a big heart, I’m happy to be able to give our singers a gift. It really makes me feel good that we are able to make someone feel happy, and give positive energy into the world. Tree Planet representative Kim Hyeongsoo stated, “I’m excited that we were able to create a forest, for B1A4 who has fans of diverse ages, and were able to see many people plant trees. We plan to keep trying to make people interested in trees and the environment.” Source: Newsen / trans cr: afterJJyoung @ AVIATEB1A4 / Take out with full credit to the sources and translator GB9 referred B1A4’s Sandeul and CNU to be the best gentlemen. On May 16th, Son Seung Yeon and GB9 appeared to be the guest at KBS Cool FM ‘Jo Jung Chi & Jang Dong Min’s 2 Hours’ corner ‘어서옵SHOW’. On that occasion, GB9 revealed the truth that they were B1A4 and BTOB’s past singing teachers. They answered, “They knew how to be comfortable when they sang.” GB9 said, “When they slightly were out of breath, they didn’t strain their neck and could song in a long time.” describing the point of how to sing greatly. When they got questioned who are the best they said, “B1A4’s Sandeul and CNU. They’re passionately amazing.’ Source: TV Daily / trans cr: eobkuna @ AVIATEB1A4 / Take out with full credits to the sources and translator The idol army has once again found ‘Running Man.’ On the 15th, a staff member from a broadcasting company talked with us over the phone saying, “On the 13th, Shinee’s Minho, 2PM’s Chansung, Sister’s Bora, Infinite’s Sunggyu and Hoya, CNBLUE’s Kang Minhyuk, and B1A4’s Jinyoung were on ‘Runningman,’ when it resumed filming after nearly a month.” They met for filming at Incheon Ganghwa island, and they went against the ‘Running Man’ team in a 7 vs. 7 competition. No matter what anyone says, the seven members, who are among Korea’s top idols, created a harmonious environment and were immersed in the filming. As it was Jinyoung and Hoya’s first time on ‘Running Man,’ they had a determination like no other. The writers had in front of them many idol specials. There have been a variety of different attempts, including a competition to find the king of idols, and an idol sports competition. In particular, last week’s episode had 2NE1 and 2PM fight with their company’s honor on the line. Due to the Sewol tragedy and the national grief from it, ‘Running Man’ halted filming temporarily. The episodes that aired on the 4th and the 11th were filmed before the Sewol tragedy, and the filming from the 13th is planned to air the middle of this month. Source: Daily Sports / trans cr: afterJJyoung @ AVIATEB1A4 / Take out with full credit to the sources and translator By Tae Hong A few hours before the start of The Korea Times’ Music Festival on May 3, a voice singing Bruno Mars’ “Just the Way You Are” rings off the walls of the empty staircase outside the singers’ dressing rooms inside the Hollywood Bowl. Baro and San-deul, two members of B1A4, appear at the top of the stairs. The voice belongs to the latter, who is the main vocalist of the group. “And when you smile — and when you smile — smile — smile — ” His falsetto stops when he spots me staring. B1A4, which debuted in 2011, celebrated their third anniversary just last month. This — the Hollywood Bowl — is their first time ever visiting and performing in the U.S. From sold-out solo concerts in Korea, Baro and Jin-young’s acting stints on “Reply 1994” and “She is Wow” to San-deul’s regular presence on “Immortal Songs 2,” the team has seen a rise — “fly,” as their motto would say — in the K-pop scene in the past year. It’s also hard to ignore the excitement of their fans at Los Angeles International Airport just two days prior and harder still to forget that, as archaic a form of popularity measurement as it may be, B1A4’s official fan cafe ranks No. 6 — that’s a member count of more than 166,000 people — among boy bands in Korea, behind Infinite, Big Bang and Beast but above Super Junior, 2PM and Block B. It’s a short walk to the band’s dressing room near the end of the hallway. “L.A. is fun, isn’t it?” I say to San-deul, who has fallen into step next to me. “So fun,” he says, cheery. “I didn’t think I would speak English this well here. I feel like I can communicate. How can I be communicating so well?” B1A4’s dressing room is a small space crammed with a black leather couch, a coffee table, a few chairs and too many people. I squeeze by Gong-chan and Jin-young as they gesture to a sloping space at the end of the couch. CNU, who is in the midst of having his hair and makeup done, shifts to turn himself sideways. He’s not wearing his trademark glasses. The five members — Jin-young, CNU, San-deul, Baro and Gong-chan — are known as many things by Korean fans, the most famous of them as countryside idols (because none of them hail from Seoul) and as paper idols because “B1” and “A4” are, literally, paper sizes. “It’s so fascinating, how full of confidence I am in English,” San-deul continues. “Say something in English,” I offer. His pause is as short as his actual English response: “Sorry.” “I’m so very sorry,” Jin-young apologizes. Baro says he likes L.A. for its sunny sky. “The sky,” he says. “It’s so high here. It feels open.” He’s referring to the Seoul skyscape, which contrasts with L.A. in the same way looking up at the sky in Manhattan may bring in views of mostly high-rise buildings, windows and more buildings. The L.A. skyline is — well, the sky. It’s blue most days, as smog-plagued as it may look miles away, and trees and clouds dominate what is upward. Jin-young, strawberry platinum hair sticking out beneath his black cap, is the leader of the group, but he’s also one of the few idols in the K-pop industry — two more who pop into mind are probably G-Dragon and Beast’s Yong Jun-hyung — who composes and writes his own music. Jin-young’s self-produced tracks include most of the band’s title songs, among them “Baby I’m Sorry,” “Baby Good Night,” “Tried to Walk,” “What’s Going On?” and “Lonely.” “I listen to a lot of music,” he says. “From both American and Korean artists. I originally liked the electronic genre a lot, but lately it’s been slower genres. I’ve been trying my best to listen to a variety of things.” In 2013, his self-composed track, “What’s Going On?”, won the band their very first No. 1 win on a music program. Now, when asked what he wants to see B1A4 doing in the future, he’s got a big goal. “I’ve wanted to do this since a long time ago,” he says. “I want to do a world tour and connect with fans all over the world and perform for them.” B1A4 have spent their two days in town so far filming with a TV crew straight from LAX and trekking around downtown, where one fan snapped a photo of members of the band holding plastic shopping bags from clearance-rack shop Ross. The real question is: What do they really want to do while here in the U.S.? “Mine’s simple,” Jin-young says. “I want to walk into a coffee shop here and order an Americano. Then I want to sit back and look at the atmosphere outside. I really want to try that,” he says. Gong-chan, the group’s youngest member, has a similarly simple wish. “I wanted to ride a bicycle on the beach, and we got to do that at Venice Beach,” he says. “It felt really good. Next time, I want to go swimming at the beach. I saw other people there and it looked so enjoyable.” CNU stretches as he thinks. “I want to go on a drive. I’ve always enjoyed driving around, and I want to feel L.A.’s nice weather,” he says. Baro has a different idea. “I want to enjoy a festival,” Baro says. “I want to personally go to a festival on the beach where they invite foreign artists to come and perform.” And San-deul, too, wants to stay on the coast. “I want to try surfing,” he says. “I’ve never done it before. I want to enjoy that feeling and atmosphere.” But for now, they’re here for one thing — to perform for the audience and to stand on an American stage for the first time — and they say they’re thrilled. “We’ve come to the U.S. for the first time since debut and we really wanted to meet everyone. We’re so excited,” Jin-young says. “Soon, we’ll be able to meet our fans on stage. That’s why we’re planning on making a lot of eye contact with our fans and enjoying ourselves without regrets. We’re not meeting them for the first time in a while — it’s the first time ever. We want to make a lot of good memories with them. We really wanted to see them.” When the time comes for the band to go on stage, it’s a whirlwind of fan service within a storm of exhilarated fangirl screams. Donned in black suits and wearing yellow ribbons — symbols of hope and unity in the wake of Sewol — B1A4 performs “What’s Going On?”, “Baby Good Night” and “Lonely.” Many, many selfies with fans are taken. A couple of the members take bunny ears from the crowd. Jin-young accepts a giant drawing of himself from a fan. The response by BANAs, the official name for the group’s fans, is explosive on Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram. “I will never forget the precious moments I spent with B1A4,” one fan says on a fan account on her Tumblr. “And will be looking forward to their solo showcase or concert in the U.S.” ©koreatimesus
Talking about your title song “Lonely” from the album you released this past January in Korea, it had a more mature feeling than your old songs. I think that during the three years since your debut, you have all improved in different areas. What do you think you have improved on personally, and what your members have improved on as well? Jinyoung: I don’t know if you’d call it growth, but all of our members, not just me, at some point started to master knowing what they had to do, and figuring out how to go about it. Even if no one know tells us, we all know what to do, or if we have to change what we’re doing, I think we’ve become more active in these types of things. CNU: I think personally I’ve been able to look at things more objectively. I’ve been able to remain cool when making judgments. If I set a goal for myself, I’m not the type to do it halfheartedly. I’m the type to be careful, but I also like to take action. So people ask me if my surroundings become too complex, but because this is the personality I’ve had for the past 20 years, it’s hard to change. Baro: That’s right, CNU hyung has a lot of worries. But I want to learn from him, about that. If I think about it, I’ve also have become more cautious, thinking through things another time before taking actions. Sandeul: If I compare the me now to the me three years ago, things right in front of me, understanding the situation, the actions I took physically to the things I felt and the effort I put into remembering, I would like to believe are improvements. Whether they were big or small improvements, I think I’ve also failed less. And I think Jinyoung’s sense when he composes gets better every single day. I think becuase we have Jinyoung hyung and CNU hyung who have many worries about music, B1A4’s musical colors come across very well. I also think CNU hyung has become manlier - his shoulders are really broad and when I see him dancing in the practice room, he looks really sexy. I’m really jealous.(laugh). Because Baro is the same age as me, we’re able to talk more comfortably with each other, and I think he’s become a lot more thoughtful than three years ago. Baro is really great, in that when ever something happens, he always thinks of the members first. Gongchan is really sensible. No matter what situation he’s in, he does whatever he has to do, and I want to compliment him on that. And lately he has the smell of a real man, so I’m really excited about how he’ll develop from here (laugh). Gongchan: I’ve gotten more confident with my voice, and I’m learning more about it too. In the past I didn’t have any confidence about my personal colors, but the members always stood by me to help me, and were constantly cheering me on. So I was able to do well, in the song I sang with Sandeul hyung ‘Too Much.’ After recording it, we all listened to it together, and the thing that got to me was, “This voice, is my voice.” And although the members are only young men in their 20s, they take responsibility for their actions and support each other, so I always have a strong mentality. Q: As the song title is “Lonely,” which of the members doesn’t like being alone, and which, on the other hand, like being alone? Baro: Before now I liked being alone, but lately I’ve had more individual schedules, so when I’m by myself, I feel really lonely because I want to see the members… When we’re together, we’re strong, and no matter where I go, I always think of the members first. Sandeul: CNU hyung really doesn’t like being alone. He especially likes to hold hands with who ever he’s next to. He says if he holds the other person’s hands, he receives energy (laugh). I like being alone the most (laugh). When I’m walking alone, I think of different things, and I can peacefully sort out my thoughts. CNU: Sandeul must not know me well yet. It’s not that I don’t like being along, but that’s just me being affectionate. I think that I’m the one that likes being alone the most. I get lonely easily, but I am also the type that enjoys being alone. Once every so often, I want to have time by myself, and that’s probably because I like being alone… Jinyoung doesn’t like being alone. When we’re on an overseas schedule, and we’re staying at a hotel, he always says that he won’t use a room by himself and that he has to share a room with someone. Jinyoung: That’s exactly it… The quite atmosphere makes me lonely, so I have to have someone to talk with. If you’re with a lot of people, even if it’s good or bad, a lot of life events happen. I like those types of situations. I like a dynamic life! Gongchan: Jinyoung hyung doesn’t like being alone because fun things happen when you’re together with someone. On the other hand CNU hyung says that watching TV quietly is like healing. Even so there are still times where he needs someone next to him. That’s because sometimes when I’m alone, he just grabs my hand as a sign of affection. He must get lonely sometimes (laugh). Myself, when I’m watching a sad movie, or love story, there are times where I want to watch it in a really dark room and capture the true emotions of the movie. That’s hard when you have several people watching it together. Other than that when nothing is going on, or even if something is going on, I like being together, than being alone. And if you’re bowling, playing games, riding a bicycle or something like that, it’s fun to do it together. Q: Jinyoung, you’ve been composing lyrics and songs since debut, and I’m curious about how you do that. Do you go, “Today I’m going to compose!” or is it spontaneous and you take memos and then record? Jinyoung: I’m not the type to decide, “Today I’m going to compose,” though I do when I really have to focus, but usually before the concept or melody appears, I think of normal, everyday things, and sometimes the melody comes out. Other times like when I’m watching a movie or if I’m talking with someone, I get inspiration from that. When that happens I record it, and then leave the rest to when I’m in the office. Q: Could you tell me if you have an artist you want to collaborate with? Jinyoung: At some point, I want to work with will.i.am. He creates a lot of memorable sounds, so it’s really interesting. Q: When you record it seems like you would shut yourself in, so what is the atmosphere like when you record? Jinyoung: When you record the atmosphere is really important, so I don’t keep myself shut in. I’m the type to take breaks once in a while and make jokes as well, to keep the atmosphere fun. And when I’m directing as well, the members who aren’t recording at the time, help look over the directing as well, so the atmosphere is always good. When we have to focus, we focus, and maintain the tension. Q: On March 19th in Japan, your second album “2” was released. B1A4 gave it the meaning of, “to you, I’m sending it to you,” so if you were to give presents to your members, what would you give them? Sandeul: For Jinyoung hyung an iPhone, CNU hyung a bag, Baro sneakers, and Gongchan a jacket. CNU: For Jinyoung I would give a massage chair, Sandeul a bowling ball, Baro a vacation, and Gongchan an exercise machine. Baro: To Jinyoung hyung nutritional supplements, CNU hyung broccoli, Sandeul a mic cover (so dust doesn’t get into the mic), and for Gongchan a swimming suit. Jinyoung: To CNU the power to react quickly, Baro the power to go take a vacation soon, Sandeul the ability to bowl, and Gongchan memories of love. Gongchan: To Baro hyung I would give him a neck pillow and blanket. So that even when he’s filming dramas, he can comfortably and warmly take a quick break in the car… For Jinyoung hyung, a GPS. Whenever he buys something, he often loses it. So if he sticks a GPS on it, it’d be easy to find, and that’s why I want to give it to him. For CNU hyung, an escalator. He doesn’t like to walk for long, so I want to install escalators where he goes, in order for him to be comfortable.
