Wrote-composed-arranged 8 songs along with the title song. They want to show their talent rather than their visuals. Getting 1st on a music broadcast is their goal—- Greed to get Bonsang during end-of-the-year award shows “You need to meet us to know us.” Their pleasant saturi (T/N: dialect) is affectionate. Seeing how saturi comes out from their looks that seem like they came from overseas, it’s a twist. All 5 of the members are ‘countryside-dols’ because they came from the countryside. The leader, Jinyoung, and CNU came from Chungcheong, Cheongju, Sandeul came from Busan, and Baro came from Gwangju. The hometown for the youngest, Gongchan, is Jeonnam, Soonchun. Maybe it’s because they were together for a long time since their trainee days, but they seem to be more friendlier with each other than other groups. It was common to have someone add on two or three more things from the side when someone tried to say something. They said there was a time where they talked for 9 hours before and they were proud of it. The group, ‘B1A4’, revealed their first official full-length album, ‘IGNITION’, and finished the ignition to rise as a ‘Hallyu star’. “They seemed to misunderstand us a lot. The freshness we gave off when singing our debut song, ‘O.K’, or ‘Beautiful Target’, was a concept we showed to approach the public easily in an enjoyable manner. But there were a lot of comments saying that we were pushing through as visuals even when we had no talent, so I was upset. I wanted to show something. We’re people whose passion for music is stronger than anyone else’s. We took the initiative to suggest it to the company and we pushed forward with an official full-length album.” (Jinyoung) The displaying of their skills was done correctly. From the 11 songs in their album, the members participated in the lyric writing, composing, and arranging for 8 of them. Jinyoung was in charge of writing, composing and arranging their title song, ‘Baby I’m Sorry’. Jinyoung also worked on joint producing for this album. The composers, ‘Double Sided Kick’, said, “It was scary how he would write the song by just his feel without even knowing the chords.” “I listened to it first. I knew he was working on it, but he didn’t let anyone hear it. I was really surprised as soon as I heard it. I was like, ‘how could there be a song like this’. We even finished all of the guide that night.” (Sandeul) “It’s a song that fits with us. It’s a song that could come out like this because Jinyoung hyung knows us well. As soon as I heard it, I felt that it was worthy to be the title.” (Baro) The 11 songs in their album are all different. There’s ‘This Time Is Over’, which has an acoustic and vintage hip-hop rhythm as the base, the R&B pop song, ‘So Fine’, with a rhythmical and rich groove that stands out, the electronic house song, ‘Super Sonic’, which has a strong chorus that lingers in your ear, the hip-hop song, ‘Just The Two Of Us’, that Miss A’s Min featured in, and others. These all show B1A4’s own variety of colors. “Only Sandeul’s solo song (Crush) was put in this album, but we wanted to show each of our charms. (T/N: …Not sure what the reporter was doing, but Baro has a solo song too;;) Since the genre of music that the members like are all different and the songs we suggest are different, we were able to put in a variety of songs. And we also created it like this with the thought that even the public would think it to be better if songs from various genres were in it.” It’s a risk for a rookie group who hasn’t even reached their 1st year yet, to release an official full-length album during the time that massive groups like Big Bang, 2AM, SHINee, and others are making their comeback. However, they had a positive mind and said, “We can’t help but do well.” It’s all thanks to their leader, Jinyoung. During the meeting time that they have every Saturday, the mind of Jinyoung, who brainwashes the members, is giving a large impact. “It’s the Jinyoung religion. If Jinyoung hyung says we’re going to do well, I really feel like we’ll do well. It’s another type of ‘a baseless confidence’.” Their goal is to get 1st place on a music broadcast. They also have the greed to get a Bonsang during the end-of-the-year awards ceremonies. They also want to open up their own solo concert. “After making a strong base in Korea, we want to promote overseas. But Korea will be first.” Gongchan: The team’s youngest that doesn’t look like the youngest. Being the eldest son in his family, he’s mature, but when he’s with his hyungs, he has aegyo and does a lot of cute actions. He picks up the things that Jinyoung and Sandeul drop around well. He’s also in charge of separating the garbage. Sandeul: He’s very social. I can guarantee you that no matter where he goes, he won’t die of hunger. During his 3rd year of middle school, he was chubby because he was obsessed with ‘Gamja-tang (T/N: Potato and pork rib soup)’, however by making steady progress, he now occasionally hears that he looks like Jinyoung. Jinyoung: The person who has the qualities in being a leader. Once he gets obsessed with something he likes, he’s the type to put his all into it until he gets results. However, he is a bit clumsy. Baro: He’s been in the group for the longest time because he came into B1A4 first. He is also the energizer for the team. He is filled with fun and wit and he also has the positive drive as the team’s only blood type B. However, he has a sensitive personality and has a lot of tears. He bursts out crying when watching sad movies. CNU: By appearing on KBS’ sitcom, ‘I Need a Fairy’, he is showing his talent in acting. As expected of someone from Chungcheong-do, he’s slow but when his hidden talent explodes, he can’t hold back. When assessing them realistically, he’s in acts as the pivotal figure in the team. trans. cr; hyejin @ b1a4trans | source cr; focus ; take out with full credits Q. Hello. I’m very happy to be able to meet the B1A4 members even through writing. Please introduce yourselves to the Bugs family who have been waiting for B1A4. A. Jinyoung: Let’s Fly B1A4! Hello. Bugs family! We are B1A4, who have come back with our first official full-length album, ‘THE B1A4 I [IGNITION]. Thank you so much to those who waited for us to come back and I’m very happy because of all the hot interest you are giving us. Since we worked hard to show everyone a good song, a song that has B1A4’s own colors in it, please love it a lot.~ Q. Your title song, ‘Baby I’m Sorry’, which was released on March 15th, reached first place for search rankings on portal sites. I think that it serves as proof that the fans’ wait was that tremendous. If you could give your thoughts on this? A. CNU: Because it’s an album that we’re releasing after a long time, we all waited for the release with an anticipating half and a worried half. I’m really happy that many people are listening and loving it, and on the other hand, I was really surprised. I want to repay back those who have been watching over us, with a cool stage and good song. Q. Please introduce your first official full-length album, ‘THE B1A4 I [IGNITION]’. A. Jinyoung: After releasing two mini albums last year, we were finally able to show our first official full-length album, ‘THE B1A4 I [IGNITION]’. We picked the name of [IGNITION] because we hoped this would be the starting point of us receiving the public’s love and acknowledgement for our music and passion through this album. And since all the members have become adults this year, we wanted to show a more matured side to ourselves, so we’re showing a more fierce side in our performances and music than it ever has been. I hope that you can love our changed selves a lot. CNU: And all the members, not just Jinyoung who wrote, composed, and arranged our title song along with producing the album, participated enthusiastically and because we enjoyed ourselves by talking to each other about a lot of things while working on this album, I think we feel more of an attachment to it. We also put an effort in trying to show the many musical colors of B1A4 such as R&B Pop, Hip-hop, Urban, and Ballads. Q. Compared to the trend of album releases from idols these days, you released your first official full-length album when you haven’t reached your 1st year yet, which is unusual. Is there a reason for rushing the official full-length album? A. Baro: Ah~ Did we release our official full-length album fast? We don’t think that it was rushed. Each of the members normally have a lot of greed for music and we thought that we should repay those who love us through a filled album with more varied songs. Q. Please tell us what kind of song your title song, ‘Baby I’m Sorry’, is. A. Sandeul: Our title song for this album, ‘Baby I’m Sorry’, is a song that was personally written, composed, and arranged by our leader, Jinyoung. It starts out with an intense trance rhythm and a drum beat as the base then it changes into a cheerful melody in the middle and at the end, it finishes off sadly. The specialty of this is that it has the unique point of repeatedly going from a twist to another twist. Also, the chorus has a strong addictive quality to it that make you automatically sing along even after listening to it once. Once Jinyoung hyung finished the song, he let me listen to it first, and I remember being really excited because I liked it so much as soon as I heard it. We went directly to the recording studio in the middle of the night and recorded a guide! (But Jinyoung hyung! What thoughts did you have while making this song?) Jinyoung: ‘Baby I’m Sorry’ is a song that was created by turning the sadness of breaking up into a cheerful beat and melody. Although it’s a really cheerful song when you just see the mood of it, if you concentrate and listen to it with the lyrics, the sadness of breaking up is expressed well. And because I wrote in my own experience as the base of it, I think many people will be able to agree with it. Gongchan: If I was to point out the difference with this song from our past songs, I think it would be that our way of expressing love changed. In the past, we were always confessing because we liked them, but now we are showing farewells and there’s also a cry for them to come back afterwards. If we were showing our immature 10’s emotions in the past, I think our love story became more mature as the members are all in their 20’s now. Q. I think the members’ participation importance increased remarkably. What were each of you in charge of for this album? A. Jinyoung: I participated in the producing for our first official full-length album and I wrote, composed, and arranged two other songs besides the title song. And since the other members participated in this album a lot, and not just me, the preparation period was really busy, but I think we spent it meaningfully and enjoyably. CNU: Just like our last album, I also participated in the lyric writing for this one as well. I think I was more careful about this one in order to show a more improved side to our selves than before. Sandeul: Whenever Jinyoung hyung was working on the song, I would be listening with all ears and gave opinions on the song and we shared a lot of conversations. i also recorded the guide under Jinyoung hyung’s coaching. When Jinyoung hyung was embarrassed about letting everyone listen to the song when he first made it, I was the person who listened to it first and evaluated it. And my solo song was placed in this album for the first time. Just like the name, I wondered how it would be like if I had a crush on someone for a long time and tried to sing it as calmly and clearly as I could. Rather than always showing a lot of emotions because it’s a love song, I think the sadness was expressed better because I sang it clearly instead. Baro: Including the title song, I participated in the writing and composing of 8 songs in total. And through a good opportunity, I was also able to put in my solo song. For my first solo song, ‘Just the Two of Us (Baro Solo) (Feat. Min of Miss A)’, I participated in not only the lyrics, but in the composing as well for the first time. Although it seems like a love story when you just look at the title, it has very sad lyrics about the story of a male and a female who have grown tired of each other and have their break up right ahead of them. I think that if they have dated before, there will be many people who will agree with this. Also, Miss A’s Min senior featured in this and I think she expressed the song’s feeling more with her thin but controlled voice. Gongchan: I acted as the evaluating audience. When the hyungs let me listen to the songs they worked on or sang and rapped for me, I would evaluate them very coldly. When I first heard ‘Baby I’m Sorry’ as a guide, my heart was beating because I liked it so much. I will work harder and I hope to participate more in our future albums. Q. After debuting last year and showing a good side to yourselves, you won the rookie award during the Seoul Music Awards and Golden Disk Awards. Maybe it’s the expectations of receiving the rookie award, but the interest and anticipation will continue to increase a bit more. Do you have any burdens from it? A. CNU: Since we know many people are watching over and anticipating us, it’s true that we feel burdened. However, I don’t think I can conclude this feeling by just saying it’s burdening. It’s definite that we have to repay back the love we receive through better sides of ourselves and I think it’s the path that makes it possible for us to improve more. Q. Your album’s overall title song seems to be, how do I say this, far from the bad boy image that males or idols are aiming for and you show a more considerate and kind, innocent boy image. Could you introduce what kind of males do each of the members think they are? A. Jinyoung: I’m a man that you need to meet with to know. CNU: A man who puts an effort in for the person they love? Sandeul: Truthfully, I think that I’m far off from the bad boy image. I heard many females like a bad boy? So I would like to become a bad boy too, but… I think it will be hard with my personality. Baro: Erm… There are many people who think I’m a bad boy because my blood type is B. However, I’m a very sensitive and considerate man. Hahaha Gongchan: When they look at me, many people think that I’m chic and quiet, but it’s not like that at all. I’m a warm and sensitive man. Although it may seem like that at first because I’m shy with strangers, I’m the complete opposite once we become friends. To the point where you’ll be surprised! Q. If you were to suggest one song that you enjoy lately or fits the spring season, what would it be? A. Jinyoung: I want to suggest ‘Whenever’ by the Black Eyed Peas. CNU: I’ve recently been hooked on a song called ‘Swim Good’ by Frank Ocean. You can feel the sincerity in Frank Ocean’s emotional voice that seems like he’s crying out, so I think it’s a good song to listen to at night. Sandeul: I’ll suggest ‘Smile’ by B1A4! The melody and lyrics are really warm like spring. Baro: ‘You Love Me’ by Kelly Clarkson, ‘Love Game’ by Tyga, ‘Lay You Down’ by Tyga (feat. Lil Wayne) Gongchan: I have recently been listening often to ‘I Love You’ by Alex [Clazziquai] senior, but I really like the lyrics. I want to say this to the person I love one day. Q. Please tell us your promotion plans up ahead. A. Baro: B1A4 just started promotions for our new album through ‘Baby I’m Sorry’, but we plan to step one foot closer to everyone through not only music broadcasts, but variety shows, sitcoms, open broadcasts, fansignings, and others. Please look forward to it a lot! Q. To end this, please give a closing greeting to the Bugs family who read this till the end. A. Jinyoung: Bugs family! B1A4 has come back with their first official full-length album, ‘THE B1A4 I [IGNITION]’. There are many excellent hidden songs besides our title song, ‘Baby I’m Sorry’, so please listen to it and support us. We will become a B1A4 that continues to improve. Please take care of your health and we ask for a lot of love for Bugs as well. Thank you. 120402 - bugs interview: b1a4 trans. cr; hyejin @ b1a4trans | source cr; bugs ; take out with full credits Sandeul OWNING the STAGE...... LIKE A BOSS! with Haha and Taw “The Person By My Sid Ok all this performance is DAEBAK! Watch it. “We’re young men now, not boys. but we’re still not complete men yet.” [interview ①] 20401 They’re not just a fresh and cheerful idol group. They are B1A4 (Jinyoung, CNU, Sandeul, Baro, Gongchan), who are personally finding answers to what they have to do in the future and wonder what kind of image they can show to the public. B1A4, who are promoting their new song, ‘Baby I’m Sorry’, are enthusiastic. They did not hesitate at all. As soon as the reporter asked a question, they said, “Could I speak first?”, and gave truthful answers. Their recently released first full length album, ‘IGNITION’, is another product of B1A4 enthusiastically pushing ahead. “Many people will probably think that our first full length album release was a bit quick for a rookie. Although our company thought that too, the members enthusiastically enforced that, ‘We really want to do this’. And by personally participating in the composing, lyric writing, and arranging as well.” (Jinyoung) “Because of our fresh and cute image during our debut days, I think that many people already have a biased look about B1A4. And we receive misunderstandings about whether or not we’re a group that cares more about visuals rather than the music. So we wanted to show a new side to B1A4 and our own color through this album. And a matured side as well.” (Jinyoung) B1A4 participated in the composing, lyric writing, and arranging for 8 out of the 11 songs on this official full-length album. The leader, Jinyoung, personally made and participated in the producing for their title song, ‘Baby I’m Sorry’, proving his amazing musical sense and potential talent as a singer-songwriter. Just as much as the members’ participation level was high for ‘Ignition’, their contentment about it should be just that high. “It was an album that we suggested first because we wanted to do it and I think our passion for music was higher than it ever was. And that’s why the communication between our members worked out so well too. I think I liked it because it was different since we were able to show B1A4’s colors well.” (Jinyoung) “I personally felt sad about one point. Along with having to much with the comeback time and other various reasons, we were only able to put in a solo song for Sandeul and I in this album. It would have been better if there was a solo song for each of the members so we could each show our own colors, but sadly, we were only able to show one.” (Baro) “I don’t think it matters whose solo song gets released first. It’s just a difference in order. I think it was a good experience to be able to put our general dream into B1A4’s album and show it. Using this album as a stepping stone, I want to try out many things.” (CNU) B1A4, who sang ‘OK’ and ‘Beautiful Target’ last year, were fresh. They worked shiny, fluorescent-toned clothes along with cute choreography. To this, words like ‘handsome boys’, ‘male gods’, ‘younger males’, naturally followed B1A4. To this, Jinyoung said, “Truthfully, I’m quite sensitive about hearing ‘handsome boy’. Haha. But there were words like ‘macho’ and ‘beasts’ this time around. But there’s one thing I’m a bit sad about. We wanted to originally show you an image of the process of becoming young men from being boys, but they looked us as in too much of a manly way.” (Jinyoung) During their comeback stage, B1A4 performed their title song and made a surprising revealing of another song, ‘This Time Is Over’. The feeling was different. Differing from songs released in the past, you could see the sides of B1A4, showing a serious and mature emotion. Just like the fans’ reactions, the members, who stood on stage, had different feelings as well. Baro stated, “I personally thought that ‘This Time Is Over’ was more fitting for me. I was sad that I couldn’t show my favorite rap part because it was a short stage.” And Sandeul said, “I agreed with the lyrics and I think ‘This Time Is Over’ was a song where I expressed my thoughts a bit more easily.” On the other hand, CNU said, “I think I liked expressing ‘Baby I’m Sorry’ more.” And Gongchan replied, “I had an experience where I had a one-sided love, but wasn’t able to do much for them. That’s why it was easier to understand.” To the members’ tangled up replies, Jinyoung gave a leader-like comment and cleaned it up by saying, “Because each of our thoughts are different, I think that it’s obvious that we would have different songs that we feel more comfortable expressing. I think it’s meaningful that we tried out a new thing, rather than what it is that we liked or not.” B1A4 is receiving good reactions from not only Korean fans, but overseas fans as well. Although it’s definitely good news, the members say it’s a spot they worry about that constantly grows. “We want to have good results in not only Korea, but overseas as well. If we want to do that, language is really important, but I’m worried about it because we’re still lacking a lot. And when I see other idol members fluently speaking another language, I feel really envious. And I also regret and think that, ‘Ah, I should have worked hard at it during the days when I went to school’. Although I may be lacking, I think I need to work hard enough so that there won’t be problems in communicating.” (CNU) B1A4’s goal is clear. What they want to achieve this year and what kind of image they want to show the public. “Our goal this year is to get 1st place on a music broadcast and winning a Bonsang during end-of-the-year award ceremonies. We will work hard in order to make sure that we can receive it.” (Jinyoung) “And another goal is to become a B1A4 that extends around the world. We want to become a group where not only Korean fans, but overseas fans and people related would see B1A4 and think of our own color. And I hope more people would listen to B1A4’s songs.” (Baro) trans. cr; hyejin @ b1a4trans | source cr; tv daily ; take out with full credits "Unstoppable five 'Chatterbox men' B1A4" Completely absorbed in chatting until the break of dawn for 9 hours" [Interview②] / [INTERVIEW] 120401 Group B1A4 (Jinyoung CNU Sandeul Baro Gongchan) are chatterboxes. Once a member opens his mouth, they talk back and forth for long periods of time. However that doesn’t mean that they’re chaotically spouting out nonsense. Wherever B1A4 goes, they make the atmosphere a harmonious one and there’s a strange energy they create for those around them. “We’re really talkative” B1A4 acknowledged. “All of the members talk a lot so there wasn’t a single moment when we felt bored while we were promoting”, they also brought up episodes. “With the purpose of building up our teamwork, we have a time during which we share various talks every Saturday. One day, we talked about things regarding our team, our school days, happenings that occurred in our daily lives, these kind of talks came about naturally and we noticed that we went on until the break of dawn. We started at midnight but after looking at the time, it was 9 in the morning. We seriously talked for 9 hours without even noticing the time going by. Haha” (Jinyoung) B1A4 always has a friendly atmosphere together. The members are always full of smiles as they share snacks and talks in the music broadcast waiting rooms. They revealed that they miss the members with individual schedules to attend to even more and feel a greater sense of their empty spots. “I think Gongchan was the first to say something like that. After completing his individual schedule at the fashion show, as soon as he arrived he said ‘Hyung, I think we’re one’. For me as well, I recently appeared alone on a radio program and I felt the large burden of having to do everything myself and it was difficult” (Sandeul) “That was also the case for me as well. While having individual schedules filming for the sitcom ‘I Need a Fairy’, I think more often about how ‘B1A4 is one’. Baro as well, after coming back from ‘God of Food Road’, he said he likes being together with the members” (CNU) B1A4’s team name was made by the members themselves. ‘Be the one, All for one’ it has the meaning of the five of them becoming one in order to be the best. There is also another meaning. ‘One blood type B, four blood type A’, a very special and also a very unique one. “It can come across to be difficult at first since there’s a combination of english and numbers but if you listen to the meaning I think everyone won’t be able to forget it and they’ll be able to remember it. When we were deciding our name in the beginning, there were other names that were possible candidates. We contemplated a lot since it’s a name our team would have to go by forever but I think we picked a name with charm so I was really glad” (Sandeul) With the familiar combination of English letters and numbers that go in their team name, which is ‘B1’ ‘A4’, B1A4 also received a unique nickname of ‘paper-dols’. To this, Sandeul laughed loudly and said, “Although we predicted that we would get connected a lot to paper, I really didn’t know they would add on a title of ‘paper-dols’.” ‘Paper-dols’. It’s quite unexpected, but B1A4 specifically has many nicknames. Because they were created with 1 member with B-type blood and 4 members with A-type blood, they’re called ‘blood-dols’, ‘blood type’dols’, they’re called ‘manjjit-dols’ because it seems as if they are idols who ripped their way out of a comic. (T/N: Manhwa is comic and Jjitda is to rip), the nickname of ‘sprout-dols’, which they received because of the choreography they showed on ‘Quiz to Change the World’, and the nickname of ‘countryside-dols’ because all the members come from the countryside. They are all nicknames that came out from the fans’ brilliant ideas and clever thinking. “Haha. There are quite a lot, aren’t there? What’s interesting is that all of our company family members are from the countryside excluding our CEO. It’s a makeup of a gathering of employees from every corner of the country” (Baro) Among these, the members like the nickname ‘Sprout-dols’ the most. Baro mentioned “There was a time we showed off a dance we made during our trainee days on our appearance on ‘Quiz to Change the World”, he went on to explain the back-story of the creation of the name ‘Sprout dance’ saying that the choreography had the meaning of ‘raising rookie B1A4 like fresh sprouts’. Jinyoung continued, “Right after Baro danced to it, on the real-time search engines the name ‘Sprout dance’ appeared right away and there was even a video of a flashmob from overseas. After that, there wasn’t a single time the ‘sprout dance’ wasn’t brought up during interviews as well. I thought to myself ‘Baro made a great achievement’” and said that he felt proud. Meanwhile, B1A4 recently released their first full album since their debut ‘IGNITION’, and is currently promoting their title track ‘Baby I’m sorry’. trans. cr; susan & hyejin @ b1a4trans | source cr; tv daily ; take out with full credits |
