140829 B1A4 STAR1 INTERVIEW B1A4’s ‘Road Trip’, which is currently going on, has surpassed a simple overseas concert and instead became a means for them to communicate with international fans. Through the ‘infinite cheers’ of ‘wanting to see them’ from overseas fans, B1A4 plans to visit not only Asia but North America as well as Europe. How are the relationships between the B1A4 members who have been constantly growing since debut? It sounds a bit embarrassing, but they must answer the questions that fans are the most curious about. B1A4’s confessions that are not seen anywhere else, let’s hear them together. Q: Your first world tour ‘Road Trip’ is about to begin. GC: Because of our recent ‘Solo Day’ activities and the world tour, we have been very busy. However, even though our bodies are busy we don’t feel tired at all. Since a long time ago our overseas fans have used SNS to tell us that they wanted to see us. I am very excited to be able to see fans in many more countries. SD: To us, who are waiting for our world tour, this is exciting as well. I’m very thankful that they know us, listen to our songs, and frequently tell us that they want to see us, I want to fly over right now. JY: I’m excited to be able to spend August (Taiwan, Shanghai) and September (Manilla) with many people. Q: The well-known nickname of ‘humble-dols’ that hasn’t changed since debut, what kind of principles/beliefs do you guys have, or is it the teachings of the company? SD: I think it’s both. Although we haven’t received much strict teachings in the company, but they have been telling us to not forget our roots and care for us a lot. But the most important reason is that none of us lost sight of our goals, we are very united. JY: Even when I look at it calmly and objectively, our members never became ‘bad’. Their personalities are all very kind. I can promise you on this. BR: Actually, before I met the members, I was someone who wasn’t considerate of others and would just say what I was thinking. Through living with the members, I have learnt a lot. Everyone is truly very kind. The fans are even more aware of this. Q: As opposed to a mature image, B1A4 seems to have more of a youthful image. Do you have any plans to change it? GC: As of now we have not thought about this. We want to continue our image that we have already solidified. Even after a long time, there would be many concepts that we wanted to try but did not have a chance to. (T/N: I don’t understand what he means…) So for now, we’ll just go with the flow. BR: We currently don’t have any urgent ideas or plans. As opposed to forcing a change, isn’t it better if we naturally change as time passes? Q: How was it departing for a domestic vacation with the members? BR: Even though I went on a holiday with the members who I already spend 24/7 with, because it was a new environment, we still got into some trouble. We departed with the thought of ‘everything will work out in the end’, but during a vacation your plans will never be able to keep up with the changes. It was very interesting. JY: I was the type to have gone on many trips since I was young, but I didn’t know that there were so many beautiful places in Korea, and I had a chance to know all about that. Even though we were filming a program during the vacation, but our mindset was not that of filming a program but of going on a holiday, so the viewers will feel more comfortable as well. SD: We tried many new things for the first time through this vacation. We fished and camped. If we get the chance again I want to go to even more places. Q: You have been promoting in Japan for a while. How is the hallyu wave in Japan? What is B1A4 there? SD: We haven’t actually promoted in Japan for very long, but we received much more love there than we expected. In Japan we have ‘BANA JAPAN’, and it is quite similar to our Korean fans. I don’t know if it’s because of that, but we feel very comfortable and we have never felt a distance because they were from another country. CNU: Hallyu still seems to be very popular in Japan. We get instant feedback for our songs the moment we release them. I am very touched that they support us even from so far away. Q: You haven’t been in any scandals. Are you really not dating? What are your thoughts on revealing your relationships? CNU: I think that fans don’t like having to discuss these questions only after they happen. So if I have to choose, I will choose to not reveal it, because for now fans are my priority, and I won’t do anything that the fans dislike. GC: I don’t even have any female celebrities I am close to. Judging by that, we don’t even have many chances, and so for now won’t be hurting our fans’ hearts because of that. If I get into a relationship, I will not reveal it. Q: (JY) has participated in the lyrics and composition of many songs, and must have received a lot of royalties. What have you been spending it on? JY: My parents are managing the money. I am still young so I don’t know much about financial management, so I have given my parents all the responsibility. Until I become more mature and more like an adult, I will not manage it. Moreover, I’m not making music to earn money so I don’t want to lose this kind of mindset. Q: Then if you received a large sum of money, what is the first thing you would buy? JY: Musical equipment. It’s much more expensive than I expected it to be. If I had a large sum of money right not, I would not hesitate and buy the equipment. Q: (JY)’s blond hair suited him very well in the MV, why did you change it? JY: I actually don’t like eye-catching styles. I do like the blond hair, but I felt a bit burdened by it. And it’s not really that I didn’t like it but I suddenly wanted to try a brown colour. Doesn’t my brown colour right now suit me well? I like it very much. I suddenly want to know what fans think of it. Q: (JY) As a leader, you seem to have a nice, gentle sense of charisma. JY: Since young, I liked to be the class monitor or to lead my friends in activities, and I didn’t like using my strength or age to oppress them. I want to become a leader who can change the team members’ hearts instead of just moving their bodies. I’m not the kind of person to get angry easily but I will say things if I need to, and the members listen to me well too. My motivation for improving my leadership is because my members are always believing in me. Q: (JY) seems to be quite sensitive. JY: Is this considered sensitive? We seem to be the type to have a lot of tears, and will suddenly start crying. The strange thing is that we seem to cry more during romantic movies than sad movies, like we have a different ‘crying point’ from other people. Also, since I produce music, I spend a lot of time doing that and I try hard not to lose that sensitivity. I try to think more in order to experience different feelings. Q: (CNU) has began to participate in lyrics and composition. Which do you think you are better at? CNU: They’re about the same, I think both are quite suitable. So the royalties are also 50-50. My lyrics seem to be very affected by my personality. As a man, my heart is more gentle, and that part of me has been expressed through my lyrics. Composing to me is to add a melody to those lyrics, so I find it very interesting and enjoyable. When I physically hear what I have been thinking, I feel more than touched. Q: (CNU) Your style has changed a lot in this album. Have you thought about cutting your hair even shorter? CNU: If the fans want to see it, I’ll cut it, any length is fine. Even shaving half of it off is okay. This album is showing one of my many sides, and I want to try more hairstyles in the future. Even though those who like my long hair will feel a bit disappointed but I believe that no matter my hair is long or short they will like me, right? Q: (SD) is Myeongji University’s 2014 freshman. How has your university life been? SD: Actually, because my schedule is very busy, I haven’t been able to go to school, and haven’t made any friends yet. But during the rare occasions when I do go to school, my seniors and classmates look after me a lot, and I am very thankful. As a classmate and junior I want to repay that but I have not had the chance yet. If possible, I want to go to MT (member training). I will try to happily live my school life and create as many such opportunities as possible. Q: (SD) Your performances in KBS2 TV are unforgettable. What is your favourite song recently? SD: Recently I have been liking Kim Kwang Seok senior’s ‘Around Thirty’. Even though I’m not 30 years old yet, but Kim Kwang Seok senior’s songs are always nice to listen to. From the romantic lyrics to the melody that you want to sing along with, it’s a song that I’ve been in love with recently. Q: (BR) appeared in a travelling program. Have you always liked travelling? Where do you want to go? BR: I have always liked travelling, but I have never had an experience where I left for one spontaneously. Ever since becoming an adult, I have wasted my time when I was able to spontaneously leave for one. After travelling with the members this time, I feel this way even more strongly. If I have time right now, I want to go on a trip with no planning. I definitely want to go to Spain, to watch the soccer matches there that I liked. In my heart, Spain has surpassed no.1 and is now no.0. Q: (BR) successfully portrayed the character of Younggyu who only has a mental age of 6 years old in the drama <God’s Gift - 14 Days>. Are there anymore characters and works that you want to challenge? BR: Actually for that drama, initially I was casted for another character, but after I suggested to the director I acted in that part. Because time was very tight, my desire to begin acting was very strong. To me, acting is something that can never be perfected, but many people enjoyed it so I am very thankful. If I did it again I would definitely do a much better job, so I do have a few disappointments. As for characters…as opposed to characters I want to participate in a war film like ‘Taegukgi’ or ‘71 in the fire’. Q: (GC) in KBS2 you lifted gagwoman Kim Hye Sun very easily. We’re very curious as to how you are so skinny but has so much strength. GC: I got it from eating. I’m the type that eats a lot so as opposed to strength gained from exercising, I gained it from eating. Usually by looking at my body type or face most people think I’m quite weak but I’m actually very strong. Sandeul hyung and Jinyoung hyung sometimes fall asleep in the living room when they are too tired. When that happens I carry them back into their rooms by myself. (Who’s the lightest?) Of course Jinyoung hyung. I put a lot of strength into it but I was surprised when I realised how light he is. Q: (GC) you were able to remain calm and perform well in variety shows. Will you be appearing in variety shows frequently? GC: Weren’t you able to tell that I was quite nervous? I have the confidence that I will be able to do well no matter what I am told to do. I am the kind who is very active, kind of like SBS . One experiences a lot when living in that kind of place, and I want to challenge it once as well. If I get the chance I will work hard in it. I have many things that I haven’t shown so please look forward to it. Usually known as a sweet and innocent group, B1A4 released new manly charms through its recent photoshoot with fashion magazine W Korea. W Korea recently unveiled its new photoshoot with the B1A4 members. The photos were taken in Japan at the ZEPP Divercity Tokyo, where the group also had a fanmeeting. Chilling inside the hotel before show time, the B1A4 members each flaunted their masculinity without even really trying, as they posed naturally in their hotel room, resting up before going and meeting their fans. The concept of the shoot was ’24 Hours with B1A4 – 1 Night 4 U,’ chasing B1A4 around after the members arrived to Japan after a concert in Los Angeles. It only made sense that after so much traveling, the boys would lounge around in the comfy hotel suite, wearing simple clothes – sometimes no clothes - and napping when possible, while they waited for the fanmeeting to start. The full pictorial will be included in the September issue of W Korea, while the B-Cut photos are available for viewing on the official website. Photo Credit: W Korea |
