“Would you or would you not fall for them?” … ‘Paper-dols’ B1A4, we’re curious about them. B1A4 stands for ‘Be the one, All for one’ or ‘five people becoming one to strive for the best’, and it represents the fact that there are four A-type members and one B-type member. Because of this they are sometimes called Blood-type-dols. Due to the webtoon ‘Five Stories’ prior to their debut, they received the nickname ‘만찢돌’ (idols who popped out of a comic). They are different from the drawings, and the more you look at them the more you like their appearances and personalities. They’ve captured not only fangirls’ hearts, but Editor’s (writer’s) heart as well. They are a boy band that represents Korea through their music, acting, and even involvement in the entertainment industry. However, they have a weakness: dance. Their dancing is not powerful and is far from ‘knife-like’ dancing, creating the phrase ‘B1A4 - knife-like-dance = B1A4′, but that can actually be seen as one of their charming points. Since their debut in April 2011 with their first album [Let’s Fly], five years have passed and B1A4 has risen as a top idol in their fifth year. Since debut they have worked hard and even contributed to their own albums, slowly developing their skills. How could you not fall for them? Editor has fallen for their comforting charms of an oppa next-door but also of a donsaeng, and will reveal ‘attraction’ points of the B1A4 members. ◇ “I feel sorry for those of you who don’t know B1A4″… B1A4′s individual ‘attraction points’: 1. Jinyoung… Road-blind Fox · Nuissance Leader · Endless Optimistic Boy · Eddy (T/N: the fox character from Pororo) · Jung-Extra (T/N: for his predebut extra/acting appearances) · Halbae · Old Man Though he looks like he could be a maknae, he is actually the leader. He resembles a cold city guy from a romantic comic with his thin double-eyelids and V-line. Even before debut, he won 1st place through netizens’ votes in Mnet’s ‘Flower Boys’. It might seem like he wouldn’t be a good singer due to his great looks, but he has skills in songwriting, composing, and even directing. He is a caring leader, but when it comes to recording he becomes meticulous and particular, so much so that he is called ‘Tiger Director’. His clumsiness is also dangerous. Even with a GPS it takes him 2 hours to reach a destination only 50 minutes away. And, he is the cute type to ask for permission by asking “Mom, can I go to karaoke today?” (T/N: from his pre-debut apperance in 10분극장). However, his official nickname is ‘halbae’. It’s because his dancing and walking almost perfectly resemble an old man. A guy with contrasting charms, how could you not fall for him? 2. Shinwoo… Gaepgol1004 (T/N: refers to his graduation photo, where he bit a sign with his band’s name 'Gaepgol’ written on it) · Shin-Kkirumak (T/N: due to his rap pronunciation in BABA ep. 1) · Gom(bear)-Shinwoo · Shinwoo-Scholar · Sloth · Shin-Announcer Both a vocalist and rapper. He also showed his musical talents through his compositions ‘Drive’, ‘Seoul’, and ‘Drunk with Music’. His love for music begins way back in his Gaepgol1004 days. He even showed his talents through his ‘Kkirumak’ rap. As a dancing singer, he approached us uniquely with his long hair and horn-rimmed glasses. His charming eye-smile and broad shoulders, and his bunny teeth that you cannot see nowadays are Shinwoo’s unique charm points. With a fresh appearance that seems to pop out of a comic, a slow speech that shows his honest side, and an easygoing vibe, he has also obtained nicknames including ‘Shinwoo-Scholar’ and ‘Sloth’. He is even known as the ‘Mom’ of the group due to his calm and meticulous personality, but that isn’t his only side. Sometimes he says interesting phrases as if he’s filming a comical documentary. On top of being respectful he also has a silly side. He is just full of fresh charms. 3. Sandeul… Duck · Sandeul’s close friend Junghwan · Lethal-Attraction Sandeul · Insoles-Sandeul · Open-eyed Blind Man (T/N: a nickname obtained from Match Up due to his poor eyesight) His name means ‘to sing softly like wind’. As expected of the main vocalist, he has a mask-idol level singing voice. Wearing the Flowering Silky Foul mask in MBC’s ‘King of Masked Singer’ he won second place, and his talents are receiving spotlight making Editor very happy. Coming from Busan, his dialect that slips out once in a while is also cute. On top of that, he’s been the target of plastic surgery suspicions due to his past photos, but if you put glasses on him he magically turns back into Junghwan so let’s not have any misunderstandings (It’s his glasses’ fault). With his duck-like lips he interestingly resembles many characters including Ditto from ‘Pokemon’ and Luffy from ‘One Piece’. His pure skin and pokeable cheeks, and his unexpectedly big hands are also some of his attraction points. He even has killer cuteness and an eye-smile that deserves him the nickname ‘Lethal-Attraction Sandeul’. 4. Baro… Charamji (T/N: Daramji is ‘squirrel’ in Korean) · Squirrel prince · Squirrel princess · Runny Nose (T/N: due to the Match Up incident where watermelon dribbled out of his nose) Even his name will make your heart flutter, 92-liner Cha Sunwoo. He is the team’s only B-type member. In the past his cute front teeth called for nicknames such as Squirrel, Baby Sparrow, Squirrel princess, and Alvin, but it’s been long since his teeth have been corrected. A staff member once mentioned that “Baro must wear make-up”, but lately through proper skin care he’s becoming more recognized for his honey-like (clear) skin. Despite his lovely appearance, he presents his low-tone rap and dance on stage, showing us his contrasting charms. His rap-making skills are also one of a kind. He has also participated in various dramas such as ‘Reply 1994′, ‘God’s Gift’, and ‘Angry Mom’, showing us different sides of his acting and steadily going upwards as an actor-dol. He is also a soccer fanatic with experience as a player in his childhood. He’s lifted his shirt up a few times to show off his abs, and stated that his ‘thighs are rock-hard thighs’ on MBC ‘Radiostar’, further demonstrating his love for exercise. 5. Gongchan… Krong-Chan (T/N: the dinosaur character from Pororo) · Chic-Chan · York-Chan (T/N: due to his resemblance to a cute yorkshire terrier) · 아덕 (T/N: abbreviation for Adidas-Nerd, because he wears Adidas a lot) · Scion-Chan · Gong-rangutan B1A4′s maknae. Due to his chic personality he has obtained the nickname ‘Chic-Chan’. However, when he is around his hyungs he can’t contain his cuteness. He even has what he calls his 5-part aegyo set. He is called ‘Scion-Chan’ due to his visuals (T/N: as if from a notable family), ‘Krong-Chan’ for his resemblance to the character from Pororo, and ‘York-Chan’ for his similarities to a yorkshire terrier. Additionally, he is known to be an ‘Adidas-Nerd’ for his love for Adidas. His charm points include his single double-eyelid, as well as his clear and refreshing voice. There are bonus charm points for the rare times he loses it and unleashes ‘Chanshikie’ (however, beware as his very realistic orangutan impersonation might scare you).
